Christmas 1967 marked the final holiday season with a real spruce tree, lovingly picked from a local pop-up lot. Its fresh, piney aroma filled the house, mingling with the sight of large, colorful bulbs and cherished handmade ornaments. Decorating the tree was a joyful chaos, with tinsel flying—some of it landing on the branches, and some on my brother during our playful holiday antics.
The next year, my parents introduced us to a different tradition: an artificial tree from Lopez Outdoor Furniture store, complete with gold garland, coordinated lights, and satin-covered Styrofoam balls, reflecting the fashionable decor trends of the time.
Today, my own Christmas tree is a heartfelt homage to those real trees from my childhood, capturing the spirit and memories of holidays past.
